Iulian Cuculea, performing and recording as Ada Kaleh, is a Bucharest-based musician, composer and cultural producer releasing on R&S Records and Apollo Records; the Belgian institutions credited with bringing techno to Europe.
His music, which he describes as Quantum Techno, moves through hypnotic rhythms, psychedelic texture and spiritual resonance, informed by decades of engagement with Spiritual Jazz, African music and experimental sound. His most recent record Unravelling features original vocals by Fela Kuti and a saxophone performance by Eric Leeds, Prince's longtime collaborator. His work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music and radio networks across Europe, Asia and the Americas.
A leading figure in Romania's electronic music landscape and a fixture on the international circuit for over two decades, Ada Kaleh has performed at virtually every relevant club, venue and niche festival across Europe and beyond; from Tresor Berlin, Rex Club Paris and Fuse Brussels to Output New York and stages across the world. His live practice extends naturally from his recorded work; immersive, uncompromising and rooted in the same techno ethos, psychedelic and spiritual sensibility that defines his sound.
Drawing on two decades of artistic credibility and international recognition, Ada Kaleh co-founded Supersanity; a multidisciplinary cultural platform where music, theatre, fashion, architecture and performance art converge. Supersanity's collaborators include Tresor Berlin, Bassiani Tbilisi, Closer Milano, Hayes Collective Lisbon, and projects alongside the Italian Cultural Institute Bucharest and Robot Festival Bologna.
