She was married to songwriter Robert Wells from 1949 until her death in 1990.
She was noted for her comedic talents and rich contralto. She dubbed the singing voice of Rosalind Russell in the 1962 film "Gypsy" and it's soundtrack (Gypsy (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)) though at the time, her vocal contribution went uncredited.
