Robert Nathaniel Dett

Canadian-American composer, pianist, and educator (b. Drummondville, Ont., Canada 11 Oct. 1882 – d. Battle Creek. Mich., USA 2 Oct. 1943). Noted for use of African-American folk songs and spirituals as the basis for choral and piano compositions in the 19th century Romantic style.
