Pax, named after the Latin word for paz, peace, was a hard rock band from Lima, Peru, active 1969-1975 and 1984-1987. (Their name is sometimes spelled PAX but it is not an acronym.) Led since its inception by lead guitarist Pico Ego Aguirre, the band is a forerunner of the hard rock genre in Latin America. Their lone album from 1972 is considered a jewel of Peruvian and Latin American Rock. After the military dictatorship of Juan Velasco Alvarado in Peru, the band dissolved, and then regrouped in the 1980's. They were the support act of Deep Purple when they played in Lima in 2008.
