John Power (1953–2018) was a highly respected Australian bass guitarist and singer, best known for his long-standing role in the iconic blues and rock band Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons. Throughout his nearly 50-year career, he was a fixture in the Melbourne and Sydney music scenes. Key highlights of his musical journey include: Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons: He joined in 1975 and played through the band's most successful years until 1982, participating in multiple reunions until 2017. The Hippos: In 1985, he co-founded this R&B outfit in Sydney, which had a minor hit with "Dark Age" in 1988. He performed and recorded with numerous other Australian groups, including Company Caine, Foreday Riders, and Rock Doctors. and backed legendary international artists such as Bo Diddley and Roy Buchanan. Power passed away on 30 November 2018, at the age of 65 due to heart failure. Following his death, his peers held a sold-out memorial benefit concert at the Memo Music Hall in St Kilda to honour his legacy.
