Cuban dance band, formed in 1942, and led by Ninon Mondejar. Original line-up: Angelito RUÍZ, piano ; Wilfredo MENECES, flute ; Felo LÓPEZ, contrabass ; Augusto BARCIA, timbales ; Julio SALAS, tumbadora ; Luis SUÁREZ & Ermidelio CARDOSO, violins. (Splitted in 1954). See also its follow-up Orquesta America Del 55. Reformed several times. Ninon Mondejar left in 1974. Later led by Jorge Machado (2) and Manuel Sánchez Warmbrug. Do NOT confuse with Orquesta América (2) from Ecuador active in the 60s/70s on the label Onix
