Psychedelic rock band (USA 1965 - UK 1967). They started out in Riverside, California, USA, in late 1963 as The Blue Notes, playing surf music. After some comings and goings, they finally completed their line-up in 1965, changing their name to The Misunderstood. During one of their live perfomances they met English DJ John Ravenscroft, a.k.a. John Peel, who began to act as their mentor & manager. It was probably his suggestion that The Misunderstood move to London, UK, early in 1966, where Tony Hill joined. With some help from John Peel's brother Alan Ravenscroft they signed with Fontana Records. Their style now ranged from progressive blues to psychedelic (especially live). Due to the drug problems of two members and the US army draft of one, the band line-up changed several times. They finally split a few months later in early 1967, after only 2 years.
