American musician, composer, music lecturer and Broadway actress. Born "Mary Imogene Carpenter" February 2, 1912 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA. Died March 24, 1993 (aged 71) in Los Angeles California, USA. Carpenter attended the Chicago Musical College and later the Boguslawski School of Music. She began as a concert pianist; then led her own orchestra, and was a singer and pianist in night clubs, on radio, and in theatres. She was married to Milton Feldman, a Hollywood movie producer. Carpenter frequently collaborated with songwriter Lenny Adelson, as well as Kim Gannon on writing songs, with her composing the music and them writing the lyrics.
