Mack Da Maniak, born Matthew Sheppard, is a hardcore hip-hop artist best known for his gritty beats, razor-sharp lyricism, and raw street sensibility. In the mid‑1990s, he made his mark on the underground rap scene under Select Records, a label with a reputation for pushing prominent hip-hop talent such as M.O.P., Chubb Rock, Kid 'N Play, AMG, and Utfo. His most notable release is the 1996 album Loco Motive (released on Select), which showcases his range as an emcee and his ability to bring realness and authenticity to every track. On Loco Motive, Mack collaborates with fellow rap heavyweights, carving out memorable moments with tracks like What Goes Up, I'm a Maniak, 2 My Brothas, among others. Mack’s style leans heavily into hardcore, gangsta‑rap elements: vivid storytelling, an unflinching portrayal of life, fierce flows, and a voice that demands attention.
