American Country singer, songwriter and actor. Born: July 13, 1908 in Webb City, Missouri, USA. Died: April 26, 1974 in Apple Valley, California, USA. Younger brother of singer/songwriter Glenn Spencer. Best known for founding the popular American Cowboy singing group The Sons Of The Pioneers in 1933 along with Bob Nolan and Roy Rogers. Spencer retired in 1949 (in part because of vocal problems) and, after his conversion, he became a pioneer founder in religious recordings on the West Coast, managing the religious record division of RCA Records. As publisher, he founded the company Manna Music (1955). Inducted into the Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame in 1971.
