Peter Wolbrandt

German guitarist, singer and graphic artist from Ulm, born October 29, 1949 in Krefeld. Older brother of Jan Fride Wolbrandt. Wolbrandt grew up in Ulm, learned to play ukulele as a child and made his first music experiences at the age of 14. From 1964, he started his first teenage band. In the late 1960's he went to Berlin and studied graphic design. In 1968, he co-founded a Rock band called "Inzest" in Ulm together with Hellmut Hattler and Jan Fride Wolbrandt ,where he played the guitar. Peter brought the Rock aspect into the group, as the other members played in a pure Jazz band before. In 1969, "Inzest" considered to become a professional band and in 1970, the three musicians together with Johannes Pappert founded the first incarnation of Kraan. However, after a short period in Berlin Hattler returned to Ulm, as he had a dispute with the band, left and settled to Wintrup, near Paderborn, where he was invited by Progressive Rock band Erna Schmidt, a band from Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. The band lived at the farm in Wintrup as a community and the musicians invited the other musicians from Kraan, including Peter, which led to a state, where the other Kraan members moved in, but at the same time, the band Erna Schmidt split and one after the other of their musicians left Wintrup. It turned out, that both bands were not much compatible to each other. It was 1971 and Kraan reformed in Wintrup, Hattler was again part of the band and in the rural area of Wintrup, they lived together in a community in this farm, which was built in the 5th century. In the following years, Peter Wolbrandt was part of Kraan and recorded with them all albums until 1982. In 1975, Wolbrandt started also to be part of side projects and guest musician, e.g. for Guru Guru Sunband or Highdelberg. He also was supporting musician for the solo projects of his bandmates. In 1979, he released his first solo album. Peter left Kraan in 1982 and made his own music experiences e.g. with Mani Neumeier. In 1987, he rejoined the band until a longer hiatus of Kraan from 1992 to 2000. Wolbrandt started an IT business with his brother Jan Fride, which he ran for many years. In 1999, the Danish fansite organised a reunion of Kraan and Peter Wolbrandt became part of the reunited Kraan, which is active until today. Wolbrandt lives in the small village of Sontheim today.
