German violinist, bassist, composer, producer and engineer in the Krautrock era, born April 15, 1949 in Bremen, died February 20, 2017.
Thomas Olivier and Lothar Siems formed a Folk duo in 1967. Walter Quintus was their schoolmate and was interested in classical music before. He was award-winning and at that time concertmaster of the Bremen youth orchestra. He joined his classmates and together with a cellist, they formed the "Quintus Quintet", a band fusing Beat, Jazz and Classical music. This band exists until late 1969.
In 1970, a band is formed by Siems, Quintus and Olivier called "Beazzic Conservatory", which causes interest by major record labels. In 1971, German TELDEC signs a contract with the band, during the recording sessions with Conny Plank, they rename to Parzival. The debut album becomes a great success for the band, they are super stars of Krautrock in the early 1970's. On the climax of their success, the band splits in 1973.
In 1977, he reanimated Parzival with Lothar Siems for a Rock opera called "Der Führer" about Adolf Hitler. Eventually, he takes part in numerous Jazz and World Music productions.
In 1982, he co-founded CMP Studio, Zerkall and the corresponding label CMP Records with Kurt Renker, where heacts as sound engineer and music producer until 2010. His last project becomes the production of a new Parzival-album "David - The Hymn". Unfortunately, he dies while working on that album in 2017.
