Gwendolyn Chisolm (born October 20th, 1959, Columbia, South Carolina - died April 6th, 2026) was an American singer, and songwriter. She is best known as one-third of the hip-hop group The Sequence. On her 20th birthday, The Sequence were discovered by Sylvia Robinson, CEO of noted hip hop label, Sugar Hill Records. Seizing a great opportunity, Gwendolyn and her childhood friends, Angie Brown AKA Angie B. (Later known as Angie Stone) and Cheryl Cook, a.k.a. Cheryl The-Pearl, asked Robinson for a chance to audition backstage at a Sugar Hill Gang concert in their hometown, Columbia and were signed that night. In December 1979, The Sequence released their debut single, "Funk You Up," which has been sampled and interpolated by Dr. Dre, Trina, En Vogue, Katy Perry, Erykah Badu, Ice Cube, Akinyele, and many others. After 3 albums The Sequence disbanded as a group but remained friends. After the group disbanded, Gwendolyn worked as an occasionally hair stylist. In 2011, Cheryl and Gwendolyn released the single release 34484011 under their group name, The Sequence. Angie not a part of this song due to her being under contract with Stax at the time. The Sequence last recorded "Say What" (Featuring Swayvo Twain), which was a freestyle over the instrumental of U Know What's Up. On April 6th, 2026, Gwendolyn "Blondy" Chisolm died after a brief illness.
