French string quartet ensemble led by violinist Jacques Parrenin. It was formed in 1942/44 and began its international career in 1949 with performances in the United States and Eastern Europe. The group performed not only standard repertoire, but also music from the Second Viennese School and more recent compositions. It existed until 1987. Cast of the ensemble over the years: • 1944-1957 (14): Jacques Parrenin, Marcel Charpentier, Serge Collot, Pierre Penassou; • 1957-1964 (7): Jacques Parrenin, Marcel Charpentier, Michel Walès, Pierre Penassou; • 1964-1970 (6): Jacques Parrenin, Marcel Charpentier, Denes Marton, Pierre Penassou; • 1970-1980 (10): Jacques Parrenin, Jacques Ghestem, Gérard Caussé, Pierre Penassou; • 1980-1987: Jacques Parrenin, John Cohen, Jean-Claude Dewaele, René Benedetti.
