Notes

A : Recorded January 27, 1933. B : Recorded London, 6 February 1933. ['British Dance Bands On Record 1911-1945 / Rust & Forbes / General Gramophone Publications Ltd. 1989] "News Chronicle Competition Record" The News Chronicle competition was held on the basis of the number of two records sold in a given period after issue (18th February to 31st March, 1933). One record was of British bands and the other of American. The paper offered £1500 in prizes for readers who submitted sales estimates accurate within 1000 for each record - so not a competition between the records but between the readers. The British entries were "Can't we meet again?" by Jack Hylton and his Band with Pat O'Malley, and "What more can I ask?" by Lew Stone and his Monseigneur Band with Al Bowlly. Decca F3459 sold 27,730 copies. The American entries were "Young And Healthy" by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians with Bing Crosby, and "The Japanese Sandman" by Wayne King and his Orchestra. Brunswick 1456 sold 19,759 copies.
