Recorded at the Five Spot Café, New York City; August 1958. Blue/silver “reel & mic” Riverside label with “Bill Grauer Productions, Inc., New York City” printed along the lower rim. Deep-groove impression on both sides. Laminated jacket shows the 553 West 51st Street, New York 19, N.Y. address. Under Monk’s other Riverside LPs on the back cover, the final title listed is RLP 12-305 Misterioso, as on earlier pressings. Issued circa 1960 – 1961, following the company’s incorporation but prior to the Orpheum period. According to London Jazz Collector’s Riverside Label Guide, the appearance of “Bill Grauer Productions, Inc.” on a blue/silver label for titles numbered below RLP 334 identifies a pressing manufactured during the early-1960s transition.
