Notas

Released by the City of Minneapolis as a promotional item, not sold in stores. Using Stan’s Music to Sell the City In 1963, the City’s Office of Public Information hit on the idea of using a long-playing record as a platform for promoting the wonders and delights of Minneapolis. The LP jacket was graced with an aerial shot of a pre-condo tower Loring Park in the foreground and, in the background, a pre-IDS downtown core where the Foshay still ruled. The inside contains additional shots of the city, along with a lengthy description of all the great things about Minneapolis in really tiny type. The Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra’s new young conductor, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, also did his part, with the LP recording provided with the “Minneapolis Story” and in appearing with attractive young women for the City’s PR photos. The recording (two works by Schubert) was one of the first “Stan” made with the Orchestra after his arrival in Minneapolis in 1960 – one of many he made both with the Orchestra and throughout his long career, only now brought to a close.
