1978. I had just retumed to Ohio from a forty day Arica spiritual retreat. My friend Tim Lafferty had moved into a small house behind a bam I was restoring into a loft apartment. Across from my back door sat a small building called the Honey House, where they used to hang honey combs and then tum up the heat to make the honey flow. A high school buddy of mine, Tom "Tommy Jay" Jones, moved into the Honey House. Just like the honey, the music flowed. To these two friends, Tim and Tommy, I declicate this album. I think of them often - forever a part of the flow.
During this time everyone in our musical group of friends picked up a nickname. Tommy Jay gave me, Ted Chaffin,
the moniker of "T. Lust," as in lust for life. Tim Lafferty became "Freight Train" while Carla Risch Chaffin, my beautiful muse that has been by my side, ever since, became "Carla Lust." Just like her backing vocals, she makes everything better. There was Al "Nudge Squidfish" Martin, Mike "Rep" Hummel, Randy "The General" Jones, Tim "Johnny Fumace" Chaffin, Jerry
"Flesh" Felty, and Rich AKA "Richini". Various lineups and configurations of this merry band have since played under the names The Whales, The True Believers, The Harrisburg Players, The Bugmen, and Tommy Jay and the Freaks.
Country Punkadelic is a small sampling of my songs created within this collective from 1978 to 2024. A special thank you to Adam Smith for his master mix, and Nudge Squidfish, good friend, spaceman, and real genius in the studio. Songs recorded at Squid's Studio 110 in Delaware, Ohio and at Tommy Jay's studio at the Honey House in Harrisburg, Ohio.
Thank you for listening, Toham Kum Rah
