Seagrape Recording Studios

The first Seagrape studio was built in 1982 by Tom Haban and Mike Konopka on the north side of Chicago. It was was forced to close in 1985 due to broken water pipes in the upstairs rental units and the landlord went into receivership. The second Seagrape Studios was built by Ron Cannon in 1986 on the far northside of Chicago, and was again run by Haban and Konopka. The new studio sported a Neotek Series II console, an MCI 24 track machine, and a 1/2" Otari MTR10 two track analog machine. Often printed as Seagrape Studios or sometimes simply as Seagrape on center labels and/or release sleeves. In 1994, Konopka sold his share of the studio to Haban and left to open his own company Thundertone Audio. Haban continued the studio for a while but it was closed down in the mid 1990s.
