Norwegian company, founded in 1900 by brothers Johan P. Johnsen and Gudmund Johnsen. Originally it was just "Brødrene Johnsen", but when Johan died in 1912 it was decided to turn it into an A/S and the name became "Brødrene Johnsen A/S".
They were the Norwegian representatives for The Gramophone Company / His Master's Voice from the beginning in 1903 until April 1955. Anders Backer Grøndahl then briefly took over the representation of HMV before Iversen & Frogh A/s (later known as Carl M. Iversen A/S) became representatives for all of EMI's labels in 1957.
After Brødrene Johnsen A/S lost HMV in 1955, they had to look for other imprints to represent if they wanted to keep their gramophone division alive. They ended up representing Nixa, VOX (6), Vanguard Records (inlcuding Amadeo Österreichische Schallplatten Ges.m.b.H.), Barclay, Mercury Records, Metronome, as well as their own Norwegian imprint Rondo (4) (on which they also released recordings from Danish Tono and Swedish Knäppupp)
