Rock & Roll (3)

A series of six compilations released simultaneously by Atlantic in July 1957, to showcase the label's core artists' rhythm & blues music to a white, pop audience. The albums all used similar graphic artwork, and were numbered in series from 8003 to 8008. The albums were originally all self-titled, although some reissues have been titled ‘Rock & Roll’ in the decades since (or in some cases with completely different artwork and titles). Apart from 'That's Why' by Ivory Joe Hunter, all songs were previously released on singles. Sixty years on, the series was collected in 2017 as a six CD box set entitled Atlantic Rock & Roll Series. The original series is comprised of: 519990 (8003) 302393 (8004) 394547 (8005) 278394 (8006) 519934 (8007) 767076 (8008)
