Fflach was formed in 1981 by the brothers Richard and Wyn Jones, who were members of Welsh new wave group Ail Symudiad. The label recorded songs by Ail Symudiad and gave an opportunity for other groups to record on the label such as - Y Ficar, Eryr Wen, Malcolm Neon, Angylion Stanley, Y Diawled, Rocyn and Maffia Mr. Huws. In the mid-eighties Fflach bought an 8-track recording unit and a studio was begun in the vestry of a chapel in Cardigan, where Wyn recorded artists such as Ffenestri and Aelwyd Crymych. In a little while the studio was moved to Tenby Road, where an outbuilding was converted for studio purposes. A 24-track analogue system was the invested in, and a new live room was added. By the end of the eighties a number of artists had recorded on the label, and the catalogue was growing. In this period there were improvements being made to the studio. There was also a variety of music being recorded which included choirs, folk music and rock. Towards the middle of the nineties producing music for children was playing a leading role in Fflach's releases. The caset 'Dau Gi Bach' was produced, and a large number was sold in the first year, and now in CD format is selling as much as ever, and there is a wide variety of music for children in Fflach's catalogue. In 1997 Fflach decided to start a new label called fflach:tradd, a label to promote Welsh traditional music in Wales and abroad. 'Ffidil' and 'Datgan' were the fist CD's on this label and some of Wales' best fiddlers appeared on 'Ffidil' and leading traditional music singers from Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Brittany featured on 'Datgan'. Ceri Matthews, a famous Welsh piper was appointed as producer of this music and by now there are many CD's in the Fflach Tradd collection. Fflach Tradd artists have appeared throughout the world from Ireland to Vietnam, and the label has had excellent responses from a variety of countries. The CD's have sold in England, Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada and France. In the year 2000 a new pop label was started called Rasp and a number of bands have recorded including Yr Anhygoel (Rasp 001), Texas Radio Band, Boisbach, Vanta, Doli, DJ dafis, Martin John, MC Mabon, Mattoidz, Kald and more recently Swci Boscawen, Garej Dolwen, HaKome and Rasputin.
