Gotham Record Corp.

Record company from Philadelphia which included a pressing plant. The custom pressing plant operated from 1945 to September 1955 when it was sold to Al Pitner and his newly created Quaker Plastic Research (9/8/55). The plant occupied part of the Gotham and 20th Century (2) building and work was begun immediately to separate the pressing plant from the other Ballen-owned affiliates. As part of the deal, Quaker would continue to press Gotham and 20th Century releases. It isn't known how long Quaker continued to press vinyl. They don't show up in any trade publications after the announcement of this deal. Although, Quaker Plastic Research is still in business, it keeps a low profile (no website or phone number can be found for the company). The remaining portion of Gotham Record Corp was acquired or consolidated by Ivin (or Ivan) Ballen into the Ballen Record Co. in 1957.
