German composer and sound / media artist, born November 27, 1952 in Karlsruhe; died December 28, 2013 in Ettlingen near Karlsruhe. The politically active Krebs met Uwe v. Trotha and his band Checkpoint Charlie in 1968, one year after the band was founded. He was active at the "SALZ", a local socialistic workers' venue. His nicknames were "Salat" or "Krebssalat", as his grandfather was a founding member of the German vegetarian society. In 1968, Krebs joined the band and became their keyboardist. He stayed with the band also after their temporary splittings in 1971 and 1973. In 1972, he started to study composition at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. Shortly after their 1977 reformation, Krebs left the band in order to finish his studies. He managed to do so one year later in 1978. He then started a career as composer and keyboarder for electroacoustic chamber music and was active in this field for 20 years. In 1980, he also co-founded a world music group called "Sohra" with which he spent several time abroad. In 1986, he gained professorship in Karlsruhe for free improvisation. Between 1994 and 1996, he develloped a new method for artificial soundscapes, called "EndoMikroSonoSkopie". In the following time, he gained several awards and had multiple exhibitions on this topic, as well as he further develloped new soundscapes based on this method. In 2009, he founded the soundscape project <SA/JO> together with his partner Sabine Schäfer.
