American violinist, bandleader and songwriter.

Leonard began playing the violin at the age of 13.
Around 1921 Finkelstein changed his last name to “Leonard". He had a group called Harold Leonard's Aladdin Orchestra in Chicago before being offered a bandleader position in Colorado Springs, organizing a brassless group called the “Red Jackets” that he later took to Canada. The group became popular on radio and on recordings.
Leonard led the Waldorf-Astoria Dance Orchestra in the years 1926-1927 (after the bandleader Joseph Knecht, and before Meyer Davis).
By 1930, Leonard was back in Chicago leading the Palmer House “All Americans” on radio, broadcasting over station WJJD. He continued to have a long career into the 1940s.
