Ricardo Torres

American / Puertorican percussionist, expert in both Latin and Brazilian styles. Born on 1948-12-06 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, as the son of Marciala Martínez Figueroa and Joaquin Torres-Orellana. Around 1976-1977 he became resident percussionist at the Nuyorican Poets Café in New York, backing up poets performing there (such as Miguel Algarín, Rev. Pedro Pietri, Tato Laviera or Sandra María Esteves). Founder member of Sambatá in the 1980s. Currently in a band named Loisaida. He has worked with Mongo Santamaria, Joe Jackson, Arto Lindsay, ...
