Loys Southerland

American songwriter, born January 31, 1925, in Cleburne, Arkansas; died January 28, 2019, in Cleburne, Arkansas. Wife of country music artist Wayne Raney (married November 21, 1941). Also may possibly be a songwriting pseudonym used by Raney. There is conflicting evidence pointing to Wayne as the writer and evidence that his wife Loys (Southerland) Raney was the writer. Southerland charted three times between 1950-52 on the U.S. country charts. In 1950 the song "Throw Your Love My Way" by Ernest Tubb hit #3 (co-written by Tubb). In 1951 "Let Old Mother Nature Have Her Way" by Carl Smith (co-written by Louie Clark) hit #1. The song hit #1 on the U.S. country chart and stayed there for eight weeks. It remained on the charts for thirty-three weeks. In 1952, "Don't Stay Away (Till Love Grows Cold)" by Lefty Frizzell (co-written by Frizzell) hit #2.
