German saxophonist, clarinetist and composer, born September 28, 1949 in Nordhausen, Thüringen.
Volquartz was raised in Duisburg-Homberg and learned to play guitar and saxophone as a schoolboy. He came in touch with the musicians, who formed "Ambition In Music", which eventually evolved to Annexus Quam in 1969. After they recorded their first album in 1970, the band tuned out to become more experimental. Volquartz was then also part of the line-up of the second album, after which the band disbanded.
After the band split, he had a Jazz band with ex-bandmate Hans Kämper in the 1970's. Later, he played mainly Jazz improvisation with different artists.
