Patrick Mwondela is a Zambian keyboardist, composer, and producer best known for his work during the disco‑era evolution of WITCH (We Intend To Cause Havoc). Raised in Zambia, he developed his musical foundation through church performance and formal training, later studying music at Evelyn Hone College in Lusaka.
Mwondela joined WITCH in the late 1970s, during the band’s transition from psychedelic rock toward a more dance‑oriented style. His keyboard‑focused approach shaped the group’s early‑1980s recordings, including the albums Movin‐On (1980) and Kuomboka (1983). He also worked within Zambia’s studio scene during this period, contributing to various recording projects as a musician and arranger.
As Zambia’s music industry declined in the late 1980s, Mwondela relocated to the United Kingdom, where he continued working in music education and performance. Renewed international interest in Zamrock during the 2010s, following the reissues of WITCH’s catalog, led to his reunion with original vocalist Emmanuel Chanda. Mwondela became part of the revived WITCH lineup, performing on international tours and contributing to the band’s first new studio recordings in nearly four decades, including the 2023 album Zango.
