He studied at the Royal College of Music, London. Member of the London Symphony Orchestra (1933-1938), The Philharmonic Ensemble, The Philharmonic String Trio, and the Harry Isaacs Trio. Principal Cello with artist 988712. He relocated to Adelaide, Australia where he became member of The Elder Trio (1959-1962), conductor, and cello teacher at the Elder Conservatorium. He is best remembered when, during a concert in London's Wigmore Hall performing Anton Webern's "String Trio Op. 20", left the stage after several bars announcing "I can't play this thing - a nightmare - not music at all, but mathematics."
