Leo Stern

English cellist and composer. Born: 5 April 1862, Brighton, England Died: 10 September 1904, London, England Leo Stern was most well known for being the soloist in the premiere performance of Antonín Dvořák's "Cello Concerto in B minor" in London on 19 March 1896, and again in New York on 5 March 1897. He married American-born violinist Nettie Carpenter in 1894, but later divorced. He married American soprano opera singer Suzanne Adams in 1898. Leo Stern also wrote "Coquette", which Suzanne Adams record twice, once for The Gramophone Co. Ltd. in 1902 and once for Columbia Phonograph Co. in 1903. Leo Stern himself made a couple recordings in New York in 1903. With Charles A. Prince playing piano, he played cello accompaniment for Suzanne Adams' recording of "Obstination". He also did a spoken introduction for her recording of "Printemps nouveau".
